We are so excited to open our doors for weavers soon! Our looms will be coming in mid-December, and our expert instructor Deborah Stålek, will be flying in on January 7th. We plan on getting our looms ready to start projects on January 8th. While she is here, she is planning on being in the studio from 9-4, Monday through Saturday. You will need to sign up for when you'll be there, so that we can plan for your attendance.
The model we are going for is to optimize flexibility. Because everyone will be doing their own unique project, you can choose how many hours per day you want to weave, and how many days per week you want to weave.
We will have a weekly rental fee, and then you can pay per day that you come in.
The rental fee for a loom is there because as long as you are doing a project, that particular loom is locked up and nobody else can use it. As soon as you cut your project off the loom, you no longer need to pay the weekly rental.
The daily instructor fee is to be able to cover paying our teachers. It is common that you will need intermittent help while weaving, especially when you are just starting out. Having an instructor on site will prevent many problems that can come if you don't get help in time.
Therefore, each student can design their optimal program. We estimate that a beginner project takes about 45 hours to complete, but everyone is different, and some are fast, and some need more time. Some need a lot of help to figure out what they are doing, and that's ok!
Once Deborah goes home, we will continue to offer at least 3 hours per day, at least 15 days per month (we plan on closing for holidays). She will be available for video consulting at 1 pm several days per week, so that you can still get help from her.
Before you start on a weaving journey, you will need to participate in a weaving planning workshop. We will offer these regularly, and they will usually take place at least a week before you start weaving, to allow time for ordering your materials. If you would like a planning workshop on a particular day or time, please let us know!
We are here to help you find your next weaving adventure!
