Loom Dressing Intensive

  • 2 Days

About

Gain confidence dressing your own loom at home through a hands-on, project-based learning experience. This intensive is designed for weavers who want practical experience with warp planning, loom setup, and the technical steps that prepare a project for weaving. Rather than learning from diagrams alone, students participate in the process on a real project in a studio setting, with guidance throughout. Students will be introduced to the sequence and logic of dressing a loom while learning practical techniques that help make the process smoother, more manageable, and less intimidating. In this intensive, students will learn about: warp calculations and project planning organizing and managing threads during warping pre-sleying the warp to the correct width beaming the warp onto the loom threading heddles and sleying the reed tying on and preparing the loom for weaving how to begin with a successful test weave We will also talk about how project choices influence setup, including how pattern and structure can affect threading, treadling, and overall planning. Because each project is unique, loom dressing sessions can vary in length and complexity. Students may have the opportunity to participate in more than one dressing session—sometimes across different projects—to reinforce their understanding through repetition. If a project is not fully dressed by the end of the scheduled sessions, students are welcome to return for an additional session to complete the process. Students joining on a later session may also have the opportunity to participate in an earlier dressing session on a different project, allowing them to see the process more than once and build confidence through repetition. Included: hands-on instruction and guidance guided participation in one or more real project setup sessions additional practice opportunities when available a $75 credit toward a future weaving class if you register within 6 months
